Bully's Acre is situated within the grounds of the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham. It has been used as a burial ground for hundreds of years. It was here that the body of Robert Emmet was brought for burial before being removed. Here also was buried the boxer Dan Donnelly and, according to legend, Prince Murrough the son of Brian Boru.

The story of the cemetery is told in a 1989 Divelina publication - Bully's Acre and Royal Hospital Kilmainham graveyards: history and inscriptions, edited by Sean Murphy.
